Abstract
Low back pain syndrome with sciatica secondary to herniated intervertebral discs represents a major national health problem. One of the causes of poor results following surgery for lumbar disc prolapses is failure to detect the lesion at
operation.
This
may be due to exploratio of the intervertebral space at a wrong level or, even if at a right level, failure to identify the disc herniation. These lesion include lateral and far lateral herniation of the lumdar disc. The instability following
surgery
have been problematic and the surgical technique is quite different from ordinary posterior approach. Since introduction of percutaneous discectomy by Hijikata in 1975, there have been an increasing number of reports on the treatment of herniated
disc
disease by this method with successful results. We report three cases of far lateral herniation using automated percutaneous lumbar discectomy at the Department of Orthopedic Surgery, Eul-Ji General Hospital. Tae Jon.
